Competition piece shortlisted
April 27, 2011 3:06 pmBreathe was shortlisted for the Joe Shepley Choral Composition Competition in March 2011. The competition is run by the Namasté Women’s Choir
of California. The brief was to write an a cappella piece for women’s voices using a text that illustrated:
‘… a global sense of spirituality. The text must be universal, not expressing the beliefs of one particular religion. It can be about anything that speaks to the human heart and spirit… faith, goodness, pain, loss, love, anything!’
I chose to write my own text , celebrating the most fundamental of acts, breathing. The piece is dedicated to my dear friend, Martin Souter.
