In Paradisum is to get its premiere performance by the brilliant chamber choir, Commotio, on Saturday 22 March 2025 in Oxford, England.

St John the Evangelist, Iffley Road, Oxford, UK

Further details on the programme, and ticket purchases are on the Commotio website

John wrote this setting of ‘In paradisum’ in memory of Colin Mawby, who died in 2019. Colin was Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral when John was a chorister there and was influential in inspiring John to become a composer. The text is taken from the Office for the Dead, and the music builds around the plainchant antiphon melody from the Requiem Mass.

I’m delighted that Commotio are singing my piece for Colin, which will be performed as part of a beautiful programme of choral music, including one of Colin’s own pieces.

There is a short video of John talking about Colin on the Commotio Facebook page
