First performance of Ave Verum

Whilst John was away in Chicago for the 2011 ACDA conference, his Ave Verum received its first performance. It was sung in Douai Abbey at the end of Communion, during Mass for the first Sunday of Lent (13 March). Fittingly this first performance was by the Douai Abbey singers under the direction of Dr John Rowntree, to whom the piece is dedicated. Dr Rowntree commented:

‘… it went very well and was equally well received by the monks, choir and congregation.’
