Creative Arts Fellowship in Music: new appointment

John has been appointed as the Creative Arts Fellow in Music at Wolfson College, Oxford. The post begins in October 2012 and will run for two to three years. Wolfson is the largest graduate college in Oxford, with a diverse body of students from all over the world. The atmosphere in college is both relaxed and vibrant, with a lively music society and a regular programme of exhibitions, concerts and masterclasses.

The appointment is particularly timely as John’s music receives increasing recognition in the UK and abroad. John says:

I’m thrilled to be taking up the Fellowship in Music at Wolfson. It gives me the opportunity to spend more of my time writing new music with the full backing and support of the college. I’m looking forward to meeting people and working on new collaborations. I’m going to be very active in the musical life of the college, putting on a series of concerts and recitals over the course of my tenure. I’m particularly excited by the opportunity to work with The Fournier Trio, a brilliant ensemble who are currently artists in residence at the college. My main project during over the next two years is to build on the body of my work based on poetical texts from World War I. My choir, Sospiri, have just commissioned a major new collection of pieces by some of the biggest names in modern choral music. With this in mind, I’m delighted that Professor Jon Stallworthy is a member of the college. He has written extensively on the life and work of Wilfred Owen, who has been a great source of inspiration to me.
