Commotio summer concert 20127.30 pm, Saturday 9 June, 2012, Merton College chapel, Oxford

Oxford-based choir, Commotio, are giving the world premiere of John’s piece Breathe. The work is scored for upper voices and tam-tam and was shortlisted for the Joe Shepley Choral Composition Competition in 2011. John wrote the text specially for the piece and says:

‘The competition specified a text that was non-religious but that had a universal spirituality. Our lives begin and end with a breath, and bringing this into the conscious mind is the starting point for many spiritual practices. I’m delighted that Commotio are giving the premiere alongside many other exciting pieces, including Bob Chilcott’s brilliant suite for choir and percussion: The Making of the Drum.’
