A new piece for Colin Mawby

Colin Mawby, who died on 24 November, 2019, was choirmaster when John was a chorister at Westminster Cathedral in the 1970s. John has written a setting of the In Paradisum text, the Latin antiphon sung at the end of the Requiem Mass. He says:

Colin was kind, generous with his time, and always encouraging of my work as a composer. He instilled in us boys a great love of choral music, particularly plainchant. My setting of the In Paradisum is for SATB, and takes the plainsong melody as a cantus firmus, structuring and colouring the whole work.

In Paradisum is being published by Shorter House, and will be available on Monday, March 2, 2020. Study scores are available direct from the composer.
