Over the Moon, online

Following their concert at Église Notre Dame du Sacré-Coeur  in Brussels earlier this month, SWARA Vocal Ensemble have posted a video of their performance of John’s folksong ‘Over the Moon’. You can watch/listen here on YouTube.

John says: “I wrote this piece for the Naxos disc Down by the Sea: A Collection of British Folk Songs sung by Blossom Street and directed by Hilary Campbell. I wanted to tell a classic tale of love found, and then lost, amidst a backdrop of elemental forces, the sea, the moon, the sun, the turn of the seasons. I like to use the work of other composers in my own music, both as inspiration and homage. I played in a folk band for a number of years and one of our favourite tunes was ‘The Lowlands of Holland’ which I have used here, alongside a quote from the soundtrack to Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet.”
